It is Open Education Week and is therefore an opportune time to recognize the significance of Open Education. ‘Open education encompasses resources, tools and practices that employ a framework of open sharing to improve educational access and effectiveness worldwide.’ (Open Education Week 2015).

Built on a collaborative culture, Open Education makes education free, accessible and modifiable. It encourages teachers to discover new ways students learn and easily share ideas and information with other educators. Using such resources therefore means that teachers don’t have copyright issues reusing and adapting content and can also translate into a significant saving in copyright fees for our School. Smartcopying provides a more detailed discussion of why teachers should use Open Education resources.

Visit Smartcopying to access sources that provide Open Education material for K to 12. Scootle is another excellent source that is not provided in this list.
